From Cooper, Michigan, William enlisted as a Sergeant in Company F on September 2, 1861, at age 26. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company I on Jan 11, 1862. Resigned his commission due to disability on September 17, 1864. Postwar residence was Kalamazoo, Miichigan.
