Charles Masserant

NEWPORT - Charles (Pip) Masserant, 91, formerly of 7936 N. Dixie Hwy., a farmer in the Newport area his entire life, died about 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital Unit, Monroe. (Picture, Page 2-A.)

Friends may call after 7 tonight in the Allore Funeral Home, Monroe, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday by members of Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus, and at 8:30 p.m. by members of St. Charles Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home and a funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. in St. Charles Church. The Rev. Donald Kresmer will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Born Dec. 31, 1886, in Newport, he was the son of Frank F. and Gertrude (Eder) Masserant. He was married April 30, 1912, in St. Charles Church by the Rev. Tobias Morrin to Delia Roberts, who preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1964.

Mr. Masserant was a life member of Monroe Council 1266, Knights of columbus, St. Charles Church and its Usher Club and Dads Club.

He is survived by 2 sons, Ivan and Carl, both of Newport; a daughter, Mrs. Murlin (Beulah) Gaynier of Newport; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, and a granddaughter, Chris Massreant, who died April 22, 1976.
