Edward Masserant
Newport - Edward J. Masserant, 72, of 8239 Swan Creek Rd., Newport, died about 10 p.m. Saturday in Mercy Hospital where he had been taken a few hours earlier. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. Services will be at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow in the Clark H. Ford and Son Funeral Home at Rockwood and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Charles Catholic Church at Newport. The Rev. John Raymo will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 tonight in the funeral home. Mr Masserant was born Feb. 5, 1891, in Berlin Township, the son of Frank and Gertrude Masserant. He was a lifelong resident of the township. He married Emma Roberts Nov. 25, 1914, in St. Charles Church with the Rev. Tobias Morrin officiating. Mr. Massrant was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and of its Holy Name Society and of Monroe Council 1266, Knights of Columbus. He was a retired carpenter. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Hayward and Arnold of Newport; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Joyce) Murphy of Rockwood; a brother, Charles of Newport; 12 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
