Harley Mitchell

Harley Mitchell, 84, of 2100 S. Custer Rd. died of a heart ailment yesterday in his home. He had been in poor health for two years and seriously ill for three weeks.

Friends may call in the Earle Little Funeral Home until 11:30 a.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church to lie in state until services at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. James Underwood will officiate and burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

The son of Andrew and Mary Mitchell, he was born March 14, 1878, at Napoleon, Ohio. Mr. Mitchell came to Monroe from Napoleon in 1928. His wife, Laura Graves, died in 1930. A second marriage was to Charlotte Pegler, May 25, 1933. Before his retirement, Mr. Mitchell was a custodian at Calvary EUB Church. He was a member of the church.

Survivors are his wife; 2 step-sons, Lloyd Pegler of Evansville, Ill., and the Reb. Delmer Pegler of Inkster; a foster daughter, Miss Glendola Mitchell of Vicksburg; 4 stepdaughters, Mrs. Frank Byers of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Alvin Moore of Bolles Harbor, Mrs. Alvin Anteau of LaSalle and Mrs. Alton Worrell of Monroe; a brother, Lyman Mitchell of Napoleon, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Edward Faust of Bedford, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
