Mrs. [Barbara (Ludwig)] ERNEST SCHAFER

CARLETON, Oct 11 – Mrs. Ernest Schaefer died at 8:30 a.m . in her home at Waltz after eight weeks illness following a stroke of apoplexy. She was 77 years old.

Mrs. Schaefer was born Barbara Ludwig, the daughter of Adam and Clara (Rach) Ludwig, pioneer German settlers. The family lived in Wayne county and then moved to BerlinTownship where Mrs. Schaefer was born March 27, 1866. The Rev. John Harsch married the Schaefers in S. John’s LutheranChurch April 21, 1891. They lived on a farm at AshCenter for ten years; in Huron township, Will Carleton drive, for 17 years; and moved to Waltz 25 years ago.

The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1941.

Surviving are the husband; one son Ernest of Waltz; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Coon of Detroit and Mrs. Elsie Kuhl of Will Carleton drive; 13 grandchildren, two of whom are in the armed serviced; and two great-grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Baker funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Arthur D. Burch of the Carleton Evangelical church officiating. Burial will be in Michigan memorial Park cemetery on Huron River drive.”

CARLETON, Oct. 14 – Funeral services for Mrs. [Barbara Ludwig] Ernest Schaefer were held in Baker funeral home Wednesday with the Rev. Arthur D. Burch of the Evangelical church officiating. Interment was in Michigan memorial park cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Scott, Ewald Schaefer, Claude and Donald Coon, Earl and Raymond Heiss. Mrs. Schaefer, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died Sunday morning at the age of 77 years after eight weeks illness at her home in Waltz.”
