Vitals | George W. Park was born 24 Sep 1843 at Barre, Worcester County, MA, to George Nelson and Mercy Freeman (Robinson) Park. His father was born in Vermont and his mother in Massachusetts. On 10 Aug 1869 he married Martha A. "Mattie" Jemmerson at Shrewsbury, MA. She was born 13 Dec 1845 to John S. and Ruth (Bentley) Jemmerson/Jennison in Woonsocket, RI. They settled in Montcalm County in April of 1882. He was a woodworker, farmer, and manager. George and Mattie had five children. These are: Florence E. (1869-1924) wife of Lyman P. Webber; Leon George (1871-1954) husband to Hattie E. Jackson and Ada May Porter; Louis/Lewis Irving (1872-1958) husband to Jennie Maud Pintler; Frank Granger (1876-1945) husband of Carolyn Green; and Ernest L. (1880-died before 1894). Martha died 29 Jul 1912 in Edmore, Montcalm County, MI. She is also buried in Palmer Cemetery. |

Service | George W. Park was just 18 years old when he enlisted as a private in J. Henry Sleeper's Independent Massachusetts Light Artillery, 10th Battery, on 24 Jul 1862. He joined his commadn at Worcester, MA, was once in the hospital at Fairfax Seminary, with typhoid fever, and was honorably discharged at Galloup's Island, Boston Harbor, 9 Jun 1865. He fought at Auburn, Kelly's Ford, Mine Run, Wilderness, Po River, Spottsylvania, North Anna River, Tocopotomy, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg, Deep Bottom, Ream's Station, Boydton, Plank Road, First and Second Hatcher's Run, Lee's retreat and surrender. He was pensioned. | ||
