Vitals | Jacob Essinger was born in Stark County, Ohio, 25 Dec 1847. He was the son of Joseph and Phebe (Swartz) Essinger, both from Germany. Jacob settled in Montcalm County 27 Aug 1867. In Greenville, 11 Nov 1871, he married Mary M. Rifenberry. She was born 5 Dec 1851 in Oakland County, Michigan to Samuel A. and Coroline (VanHoose) Rifenberry. They had an adopted daughter, Mabel A. (1901-) wife of Paul J. Hyatt. Mary died in Lakeview, 27 Feb 1931, and is also buried in West Pine Cemetery. |

Service | Jacob enlisted at the age of 17 from Whitley County, IN as a private in Company G, 142nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He fought at Nashville and at Franklin. He was wounded at Nashville 23 Dec 1864 by a gunshot in the righ hip. He received a discharge 20 Jul 1865. | ||
