John J. Bush was born in Erie County, New York 28 Feb 1834 to James C. and Ann (Bagley) Bush. John married Electa S. AKA Lydia E. Sherman in Barry County, MI, 16 Aug 1857. She was born 11 Jun 1837 in Cuyahoga County, NY to Job and Rhoda (Woodmansee) Sherman. They settled in Montcalm County in 1874 according to Presidents, Soldiers, Statesmen Vol II, 1892, but they are in Wisconsin during the 1870 census and in Manistee County in the 1880 census.
They had a daughter, Flora Emma (1859-1900), born in Wisconsin, wife of ___ Aiken and C. H. Hoffman. She died in Jackson County, MI.
Lydia E. died 31 Mar 1914 and is buried in Vinewood Cemetery.
John married Minerva (Owen) Stevens, 29 Dec 1914, in Ionia, Ionia County, MI. They each had one previous marriage. Minerva died in 1928. She is buried in Vinewood Cemetery. |

John Bush entered the service 15 Mar 1865 in Fowlerville, Livingston County, MI. He enlisted in Company A, 9th MI Volunteer Infantry, 4th Brigade, 14th A. C. as a private. His service consisted chiefly of guard and garrison duty and he was honorably discharged 15 Sep 1865 in Nashville, TN. |

His father was in a NY Heavy Artillery Regiment and was wounded by a shell from the effects of which he died after returning home in 1868. Two brothers, Jesse O. and Ansil were also in service. Jesse was in an Iowa Regiment, serving three years. Ansil was in the 16th MI Volunteer Infantry and fell dead while on guard aboard the hospital boat on the Red River. A grandfather, Bagley, fought in the Blackhawk Indian War. |
