Vitals | William Morgan Youngs was born 6 May 1828 in Livingston County, New York. He was the son of Elijah and Martha (Palmer) Youngs. On 11 Oct 1849 William married Harriet Philena Hodgskins in Jackson County, MI. Philena was born 14 May 1829 at Lockport, NY. She was the daughter of Cyrus and Philecta (Darling) Hodgskins. William and Philena settled in Montcalm County in the fall of 1853. They were the parents of Sylvester Perry (1850-1923) husband of Mary Elizabeth Thomas; Daniel; Charles D. (1861-1947) husband to Nellie Wheeler and Marion Stewart; Clark W. (1865-1900); and Grace S. (1867-1924) wife of Julian W. Bullock. Harriet died of pneumonia 10 Nov 1901 and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Stanton, MI. He is listed as a farmer on census records. William died in Clifford or Burlington, Lapeer County, MI. |

Service | William Youngs entered the service from Ionia, MI 18 Aug 1864. He was a 36 year old farmer in Ionia County when he enlisted as a private in Company E, First Michigan Engineers & Mechanics. He was detailed that month, in the Commissary Department at Jackson, MI, and kept there until honorably discharged 6 May 1865. He had one furlough in the spring of 1865. He was pensioned. | ||
