Cato Township
Montcalm County, Michigan

The settlement in Cato township, was originally an Indian campsite located on the west bank of Tamarack Lake. Mr. Albert French came to the area from New York in 1858. Mr. French named the community Lakeview and it received its incorporation as a city in 1881.

Cato Township was named after Cato, New York, by Westbrook Devine.

Bass Beach was on Town Line Lake and platted as a resort town.
