Submitted by Darren Kroenke mailto: b-town_ndn@sbcglobal.net ************************************************************************ My g-grandfather, William Edward Davis III was born in 1873 in Oshkosh, WI. He passed away in the 1940s in Zeba. His life story, as related to me by my grandmother and her sibilings, is very interesting. What I am about to relate to you now will probably not go over well, as it hasn't been believe by others, but my g-grandfather is the biological father of Elizabeth Pelto nee Papin, who recently walked on. She lived for some time with my grandmother's family when she was very young. The other part of the time, she was living with her mother and grandparents in Zeba. Apparantly, this information was never widely known to many people, but my great-aunt Claire used to keep in contact with Elizabeth up until about 10 years ago. Another interesting tid-bit relates to Rosella Davis nee Welch. After her first husband, William E. Davis II, passed she re-married to Joseph Chosa Sr. I found copies of this marriage in the records stored at the court house. Apparantly they lived for some time at the village of Keweenaw Bay. One aspect of my family history that I am very interested in researching and learning any information from anyone I can about, relates to the Catholic Mission Church at Assinins. Sometime during the mid or later 1930's, my g-grandfather, William Edward Davis III built a grotto for a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary out of beach cobbles from the Lake Superior shoreline by the mission. This grotto was quite large, as my grandmother remembers it. I was interested if any pictures of this grotto exist, or if any of the elders from the community, particularly members of Mission parish remember this grotto. Well, that's about all I have for now. I'll attempt to keep in touch. Please let me know if any of this information I have just shared is of any interest to anyone sincerely, Darren Kroenke ***************************************************************** USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
