Barbano, age 75 formerly of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2002 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he has been a resident since May of 2002. He was born July 1, 1927 in L'Anse, son of the late Henry and Marian (Asher) Barbano. Byron grew up in L'Anse. He worked with the laborer's union in the Chicago area retiring in 1992 then returned to L'Anse. Byron ws in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 144 and the VFW Post 3897 both of L'Anse. Byron is survived by a sister Henrietta Saari of Negaunee, a brother John Asher of Marquette, a special friend Norma Osterman of L'Anse, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Lloyd Asher, Paul Barbano, Charles Barbano, sisters Isabelle Hugo and Betty Rantanen. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 16 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home, and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Baraga County area veterans will conduct military services at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in the Indian Pinery Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
