Georgianna E. Emery (30 August 1940 - 6 Feb. 2003)

Georgianna E. Emery, age 62, of L Anse died on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Baraga County Memorial
Hospital where she had been a patient for the last two weeks. Funeral services for Emery were held 
on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L Anse. Funeral arrangements were 
entrusted to the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L Anse.

Georgianna E. Emery
L'ANSE   Georgianna E. Emery, 62, of L'Anse, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Baraga County 
Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for the last two weeks. She was born in Zeba on, August 
30, 1940, daughter of the late George E. and Alice (Spruce) Curtis.

After graduating from L'Anse High School in 1958, she attended the Metropolitan Business College in 
Chicago. She then attended Northern Michigan University where she majored in business. 

From 1968 to 1986, she was employed as the executive secretary to the Ojibwa tribal chairman. She was
a former member of the Ojibwa Tribal Council and vice-president of the Ojibwa Senior Citizens. 
Georgianna had been very active in tribal affairs and was an ogitchidaa ikwe (warrior woman). 
She enjoyed beading, bowling, reading and bingo. She was an avid Green Bay Packer backer. Georgianna 
was a member of the Zeba Indian United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Emery is survived by daughters, Colleen McSwaby of Gwinn, Tracy Emery of L'Anse; seven grandchildren; 
a great-grandchild; brothers, Robert "Beaver" (Valerie) Voakes of L'Anse, Jerry Lee (Cindy) Curtis of 
Baraga; sister, Sandra (Jerry) Swartz of L'Anse; sister-in-law, Karen Curtis of L'Anse; numerous nieces, 
nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Emery, Jr.; brother, Bob; and special friend, Dan Grgurich.
Funeral services for Mrs. Emery will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at the Reid Funeral 
Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Pastor Jean Rencountre will officiate and spring burial will take place in 
the Pinery Cemetery in L Anse. 

The family will receive friends Monday, February 10, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Reid Funeral 
Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Traditional ceremonies will be held at 8 p.m. Monday evening under the 
guidance of Paul Halverson and Fred Shalifoe.

Following the services, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon and fellowship at the 
Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L Anse.
