"MOOSE" ASHER, 81, of L'Anse, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI. where he had been a resident for the past 4 years. He was born in L'Anse, MI. on December 9, 1922 son of the late John and Marion (Barbano) Asher. John attended school in Zeba and was a lifetime area resident. He was a decorated veteran and served as a medic in the US Army during WWII. John was employed as a laborer for the Celotex Corporation until his retirement in 1985. He married the former Gladys Genshaw in L'Anse, MI. She preceded him in death in 1987. John was a member of Zeba Methodist Church, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the L'Anse American Legion Post 144. In his leisure, John pitched league baseball, and enjoyed walking, carpentry, and deer hunting. Mr. Asher is survived by his son, Ritchie (Barbara) Asher of L'Anse, 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and sister, Henrietta Saari of Negaunee. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
