Marion L. "Weaz" Lucas 
(July 1, 1920-February 24, 2003)

MARQUETTE -- Marion L. "Weaz" Lucas, 82, of 316 Pine Street, Marquette, entered eternal life 
Monday morning, February 24, 2003, at her home. Marion was born July 1, 1920 on the Bad River 
Indian Reservation in Odanah, WI, a daughter of the late Paul and Susan (Knight) Bressette. While
Marion was still a child, the family moved to Keweenaw Bay and there she resided until her 
marriage to John W. Lucas on February 14, 1942 in Detroit. John entered military service in 
October 1942 and the couple later moved to Marquette in 1944. Marion was employed for a time at 
the College Laundry and Cleaners, but for most of her lifetime enjoyed her role as homemaker. 
She especially enjoyed her family, grandchildren, visiting with relatives, attending pow wows, 
and doing Native American craftwork. Marion was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 
the Kateri Tekakwitha Circle, and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. 

A loving mother, proud grandmother, and sister, she is survived by her sons, Paul J. Lucas and 
Michael B. (Darlene) Lucas both of Marquette; her grandchildren, Christopher and Nicole Lucas; a 
sister, Helen Jermac of Marquette; and two brothers, Kenneth (Gloria) Bressette of Baraga and 
Bernard Bressette of Marquette; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her 
parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Lucas in 1970; an infant daughter, 
Marilyn Lucas; grandson, Michael Lucas; three sisters, Charlotte and Gertrude Bressette, and 
Lillian LaFernier; and brothers, Clifford, Earl, Robert, and Raymond "Muzz" Bressette. 

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A parish 
prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 6:30 PM Wednesday evening, led by Sr. Francis 
Mortola, Coordinator of Native American Ministry for the Diocese of Marquette. A Mass of Christian 
Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday morning, February 27, in St. Christopher Catholic 
Church with Rev. Ben Paris, as celebrant. 

A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made
in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Escorts will be Paul, Lois, and Lynn Bressette, and Julie Hartman.
