Decota (July 28, 1952-March 4, 2004) MARY M. “MOOGE” DE COTA, age 51, of Zeba, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. She was born in Baraga, MI. on July 28, 1952, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Arsenault) DeCota. Mary attended L’Anse High School. She was employed by the KBIC Tribal Center in the maintenance department. Mary was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and Blessed Kateri Church, Zeba. She enjoyed spending time with her family, collecting eagle figures, country music, and watching wrestling. She is survived by her loving partner, John Roberts of Zeba, daughters; Stacy Lynn DeCota, Kristy Lynn DeCota and Jill Elizabeth Roberts all of Zeba, grandchildren; Nora, Shanna and Todd, her father; John DeCota of Milwaukee, brother; George DeCota of L’Anse, and sister; Gloria (Richard) Shalifoe of Zeba. Nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, one sister and one brother. Funeral services for Mary DeCota were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Greg Heikkala officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, March 8, 2004 from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel and for 1 hour prior to the services on Tuesday. A parish prayer service was held Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. followed. The family invited friends to join them for fellowship and luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens, Baraga following Tuesday’s services. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
