The former Patricia Emery was born March 17, 1933 in Zeba, Baraga County, the daughter of William I. Emery and Catherine (Schofield) & Archie Sipe. Pat grew up in Zeba and graduated from high school in Haskel, Kansas in 1952. She married Raymond Kemppainen on January 23, 1954 in Zeba. They lived in Chicago for 41 years, moving back to Zeba and then to Baraga. She enjoyed playing Bingo and slot machines, cooking, and going to the Theatre. Pat was a member of the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Parish in Zeba, Ojibwa Senior Citizens, and KBIC. Pat Kemppainen was survived by her husband Raymond Kemppainen of Baraga; four sons, Raymond Jr. (Pam) of Chicago, Michael (Anita) of Lawrence, KS, Erick of Lawrence KS, Mark of Baraga; two daughters, Lori Horst of Addison, IL, Catherine (Ambrose) Shepherd of Lawton, OK; brother William (Gretchen) Emery of Zeba; two sisters, Beverly (Pete) Ellsworth and Gwen Loonsfoot both of Zeba; 27 grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons Rodney and Craig; three brothers, Gerald, Ron, and James Emery; three sisters, Jacqueline Cote, Virginia Shelifoe, and Mary Connors; special sister-in-law Georgianna Emery.
