KAUPPILA, age 45, of Baraga, passed away at his residence Friday, October 22, 2004 following a lengthy illness. He was born in L Anse, MI. on May 14, 1959 son of the late Raymond E. and Alice (Cardinal) Kauppila. Roger attended Baraga Area Schools. He was a member of Holy name of Jesus Church and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. Roger spent over 25 years in California as a certified nursing assistant including 7 years at the Motion Picture Television Hospital in Woodland Hills, CA. He was honored to have the privilege to escort the late Lucille Ball when she would arrive to visit her friends at the hospital. The balance of his time in California was spent providing private care nursing. Roger returned to the Baraga area in July after he became ill. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his caring personality and concern for others. Mr. Kauppila is survived by 2 brothers, Robert (Carol) Carlson of Baraga, David (Jeanne) Kauppila of Baraga, 3 sisters, Mary Kauppila of Albuquerque, NM., Betty Kauppila of Baraga, Nancy Kauppila of Baraga, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by several great nieces, and 1 great nephew. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald Carlson and Richard Kauppila.
