Submitted by Rose Edwards mailto:baragarose@up.net ************************************************************************ Sarah Froberg (February 22, 1912 - September 25, 2003) Sarah Froberg, age 91, formerly of Baraga passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Winchester House in Libertyville, IL where she has been a resident for the past four years. She was born February 22, 1912 in Assinins, MI daughter to the late Thomas and Mary Jane (Monguse) Shalifoe. Sarah married George Duschene in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1942. On March 2, 1946, she married Victor Froberg in Baraga. She worked as a nurse's aide at Baraga County Memorial Hospital until moving to Waukegan, IL in 1965 where she retired from St. Therese Hospital in 1974. Sarah moved back to Baraga in 1974 and was a member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, KBIC, and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, Scrabble, Wheel of Fortune, and traveling. Sarah s joy was her grandchildren and her greatest wish was for harmony and healing among her people. Sarah is survived by four sons, George (Bernice) Deschaine of Beach Park, IL, Russell (Dawn) Froberg of Lindenhurst, IL, Mike (Kathleen) Duschene of Baraga, Roger (Gloria) Duschene of Little River, SC; one daughter, Mary (Billy) Brady of Beach Park, IL; two sisters, Isabelle Chosa of Baraga, Florence Uusitalo of L Anse; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Victor Froberg; daughter Helen Hudson; four brothers, Thomas, Richard, Frederick, and Charles Shalifoe; two sisters, Cecelia LaPointe and Marcella Loonsfoot. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 29 at 10:00 a.m. at The Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday and from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Fr. James Ziminski will officiate. Burial will be at the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L Anse is assisting the family.
