| Fields was established on June 17th. , 1889, with John J. Williams as Postmaster. John J. Williams had a sawmill there and a small settlement sprang up around the mill. There was also a bark camp located here. The settlement served as a flag stop on the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad, later the Pere Marquette Railroad. The station was the stopping-off place for years for fishermen going to the "Pool" on White River. This was one of the locations where the railroad sat a boxcar along the track to serve as a depot. The boxcar was there long after the train quit stopping there. The post office was discontinued on Nov. 15th., 1900, with Augustus Richards as Postmaster. The mail then went to Woodville. Nothing left around the area but a few homes. |
