Frederick J. Maynard, farmer, section 27, Denver Township, was a son of John and Lois (Camber) Maynard, who were natives of Clinton Co., England. They immigrated to America, and after spending two years in New York, came to Michigan and settled on the farm where Frederick resided, in the fall of 1856, and where he was born Nov. 2, 1862. He spent 12 winters in the district schools of this place, and since that time has labored hard and earnestly to assist in cultivating his father's large farm. His father bequeathed him 70 acres of finely improved land, and he was classed with the best farmers of the county. His honesty and integrity won for him an excellent reputation.
He was married to Emily Sophronia Titus, the daughter of Charles and Harriet "Falk" Titus on March 4, 1885 in Grand Rapids. Emily was born 6 July 1867 in Hope, Barry Co. Mich. They had two sons, Earl Frederick, born 21 Jan 1886 and Ernest James, born 9 Sept, 1887. In politics he was a Republican. Frederick died 24 July 1888, Newaygo Co. and was buried in the East Hesperia Cemetery. Emily married George Dickinson on 15 Dec. 1896 in Fremont and they had three children: Cassie born 1900, Clyde born 1902 and Connie born 1911.
