Gustus Lilone 1846-1931

Gustus P. Lilone, a resident of Fremont and vicinity for 64 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gilbert L. Barnhard. He had been failing in health for three years and suffered a stroke of paralysis June 6 from which he never rallied. He was 84 years, 11 months and 28 days old.
Mr. Lilone was born in Canada July 31, 1846. His parents came to Fremont when he was 21 years old and spent the remainder of his life in this vicinity. His father was killed during the Civil War, leaving several small children. Three of the boys were adopted into other homes, the mother keeping the girls and Gustus.
He was married to Jennie Hopkins in 1874. She passed away in 1921. He was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert L. Barnhard of Fremont and Mrs. Addison Flinton of White Cloud; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Kelley and Mrs. Anna Peak of Hastings, and two brothers, Will Fennock of Hastings and Henry Benson of Prairieville. He was also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. One son died in February.
The funeral services was held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home and was in charge of by Rev. C.E. Pickett, pastor of the Christian church. Interment took place in Maple Grove Cemetery.
