Allen was born December 29, 1847, in the town of Middleborough, Plymouth County, Mass. the son of Allen H. and Phebe N. "Platt" Westgate. At the age of five years he came to Michigan, where they settled in Big Prairie Township, Newaygo Co. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Harvey, March 28, 1868, making Big Prairie their home for five years.
Alden, with his family came to Dalton Twp. in 1875, where he resided until his death, June 21, 1927. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Ellen and five children, two sons,. George and Frank Westgate of Dayton Twp. and three daughters, Mrs. Florence Dickinson of South Boardman, Mrs. Bertha Prater of Portland, Michigan and Mrs. Grace Massey of Grand Rapids, Michigan, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two brother, Charles and George Westgate and one sister Mrs. George Doud.
He was buried in the Dayton Center (Jewell) Cemetery.
