Alfred's parents were born in Mass. and are buried in North Collins, Erie County, New York.

b. 1859, New York. d. 1934, West Islip, Long Island, New York.


Children:


1) LYNN A. HATHAWAY b. 15 Jul 1878, North Collins, Erie Co., New York. m. 14 Sept. 1899, North Collins, N.Y. to RUBY CLARE GRANNIS b. 7 Apr. 1884, Brant, Erie Co., New York. Both are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont, MI. Lynn d. 29 May 1951 Fremont, Ruby d. 16 June 1962, Fremont.

They had four children, Bernice B. Hathaway, Wilma Clare Hathaway (my mother) Eleanor M. Hathaway, and Eugene Ray Hathaway. My mother is the only one who has survived today and is 91 years old. All the children grew up in Big Prairie, Newaygo County. All stayed in Newaygo Co. except my mother who lives in Muskegon Co. All the children went to the Dudgeon School.

3)WILLIAM RAYMOND HATHAWAY b. 1882, North Collins, N.Y.

4)CLYDE DEFOREST HATHAWAY - b. 1/23/1891 Gowanda, N.Y.- parents Alfred E. Hathaway & Ella M. (Smith) Hathaway.



...The 1900 New York census has Ella (Smith) Hathaway, age 41, William 14 and Clyde 9 and Lynn 22 w/ Ruby 17 were also listed.. Alfred is not mentioned.

... 1/30/1913, lived in North Big Prairie, Newaygo County, Michigan (that they lived in North Big Prairie in Jan. 1913 and 1916 are documented in the social columns of the White Cloud Eagle of those dates).

...1916 still living in North Big Prairie. His mother Ella M. (Smith) Hathaway also living in North Big Prairie. Clyde's war record lists him as living in the town of Everett, Newaygo Co. Michigan, address White Cloud.

...July 1, 1918. m. Myrtle Riviat of White Cloud, MI. m. in Grand Rapids, MI. He was 27 yrs. and she was 22 yrs. First marriage for both. (At some point they divorced and Clyde married LILLIAN MCLAUGHLIN).

...July 15, 1918 entered US Army in Lansing, MI as Cpl. M.T.C. 707. Left for Overseas in Co. E. M.R.U. 307. Transfered to M.T.C. 707 (Aunt Eleanor told me he drove for a Colonial when overseas.)
...June 18, 1919 Discharged from Service , reason - "end of war"
...His occupation before the war listed as "farmer" and after the war as "mechanic".

...1924 Clyde D. metal worker, Hayes, Ionia Co.; Grand Rapids. Also Lillian, clerk (who is now his wife), and Ella M., his mother, nurse, widow of Alfred (Source: Hathaways of America 1970 edition.)

...1924 His father, Alfred Hathaway, died -had a sawmill in North Colins, N.Y.

...Ella M. Hathaway, res. Grand Rapids, MI. Lillian at same address (where was Clyde D? Was he running the sawmill in North Collins after his fathers death?
