Hugh S Swan




Hugh was born August 16, 1827 (unknown place of birth)and died in Michigan May 28, 1908. He married Mary E. (maiden unknown) on July 4, 1851 possibly in Tuscarora (now Addison county of Stuben) New York. Mary died in the Masonic Home sometime between 1923 and 1925, she was 88 years old.

William H. Swan was worn April 11, 1858 in Tuscarora.  It is unknown if there were other children from Hugh and  Mary.  Sometime before 1878 Hugh, Mary and William are located in Genesee and Newaygo Counties of Michigan. 

On December 20, 1878 William H. Swan was joined in marriage to Cora Gertrude Goodrich by Samuel A. William's Minister of the Gospel.   Will was 20 and Cora was 16.  A daughter, Cora Gertrude Swan II, was born in Toledo Ohio on November 17, 1881 and passed away on February 17, 1967 in Hermosa Beach California. 

Hugh S. Swan was the New York national guard as a Captain.  Documents, dated October 14, 1863, indicate he was in the 58th Regiment, 27th Brigade, 7th Division. He was also a Freemason and involved with the Michigan Masonic Home Association in Grand Rapids, certificate dated December 3, 1887.
