Lewis E. Wright

Lewis E. Wright was born Sept 25, 1832, in Cayuga Co, NY and died April 23, 1902 at 9:45 p.m. being 69 years, 6 months and 23 days old.

At the age of 12 years he moved with his parents to Livingston Co, MI, working on the farm summers and attending school winters until he was 21 years old, then he attended the academy at Lodi Plains for one year. He taught several successful terms of school. Int the year 1856 be located his land in Croton Township. He then returned to Livingston Co and taught school about one year. Returning to Croton in 1857 he purchased the farm from the government which he cultivated. He enlisted in the war of the rebellion on Sept 30th, 1862, serving his country faithfully for more than 3 years, he then returned to his home in Croton Dec 9th, 1865. April 15th, 1860 he married Martha Wonch. Six children were born to them, five of whom still live to mourn the loss of an affectionate father. Mr Wright has been a close member of the Methodist Church for more than twenty-five years, he was a class leader and a Sunday School Superintendant. He held the office of Justice of the Peace and Assessor of District No. 3 at the time of his death. His wife, Martha J has been very much afflicted and helpless for the past year with paralysis. The services were held at the home of the deceased on account of the illness of Mrs Wright and her Mother, by the Rev D.E. Reed of Howard City. He remains were interred in the Oak Grove Cemetary.
