| E. J. Shirts was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, March 15, 1827. Settled in Indiana, in 1845; returned to Ohio in 1847. In 1858 he engaged in the grocery business, which he continued for three years; then worked at his trade, a carpenter and joiner. Finally, in 1864, he settled at Lansing, Mich., and engaged in the mercantile business till 1873, when he moved his stock to Shelby, Oceana Co., Mich. Married July 10, 1853, to Elizabeth Imhoff, from Wayne County, Ohio. |
