Oceana County submitted by:Glenn Hoyt |
While Abner
Z. Hoyt was not a resident of Oceana Co., he was married here with his
brother and his wife as witnesses. (They resided in Oceana Co. - Not sure
which township, but assume Pentwater). I have a copy of the Marriage Certificate from Abner Z. Hoyt's Civil War Pension file as is transcribed below: Clerk of County: Burt Wickham Record #: 395 Date of License: Blank Full Name of Groom: Abner Z. Hoyt Age: 37 White Residence: Riverton, Mason Co., Michigan Birthplace: New York Occupation: Farmer Name of Father: Not given Name of Mother: Not Given Full Name of Bride: Mary M. Parker Age: 28 White Residence: Riverton, Mason Co., Michigan Birthplace: Niagara Co., New York Occupation: Blank Name of Father: Not given Name of Mother: Not Given Date of Marriage: 21 October 1871 Place of Marriage: Pentwater (Oceana Co) Married by: E. E. Edwards - JOP Witnesses and Residence: Byron Hoyt and Ida Hoyt - Pentwater (Oceana Co) Mary May Parker was employed by Jane A. Hoyt (Abner Hoyt's first wife who passed away September 1871) as housekeeper (per Mary Parker's affidavit in Abner's pension file) at the time of Jane's death. It is unclear how long she had been employed, but I would assume starting when Jane fell ill. For Mary May Parker, this was her second marriage. Parker is not her maiden name. She had been married previously (and divorced in either 1868 or 1870 in Ludington, Mason Co) to a Samuel Parker and had 4 other children with that union (Divorce records destroyed in the big fire in Ludington - date unk before 1902). Abner and May Parker had no children together. |
