JOHNSON
Researching Andrew JOHNSON's family.
Andrew came to Ontonagon from Rättvik parish, Rättvik District,
Kopparber
County, Härjedalen Province sometime between 1900 and 1905. His first
naturalization intent was filed in June 1904. This was denied - not
in
country long enough, and then new intent filed October 1913.
Witnesses were
Lars Skantz, and Jack Skantz. He became a citizen on June 8, 1914. I believe Andrew traveled to America with his two brothers: Erick
JOHNSON
who later settled in Duluth, Minnesota, and John JOHNSON who settled
in
Itasca County, Minnesota.
Any info on Erick or John is welcomed also.
Andrew worked at Victoria, possibly White Pine, as well as farming,
and the
Ontonagon Paper Mill.
Andrew married Gerda (Yarda) Kristina ANDERSON in 1911, in
Ontonagon.
They had 7 children:
Henry John;
Edith (died at age 6);
Evelyn (died at age 2);
Marion Edith;
Margaret Evelyn;
Walter Arnold; and
Mildred Marie (died at age 1).
Andrew lost his wife Yarda, and daughter Mildred in a car
accident
on July 4, 1928.
Twelve years later Andrew married longtime friend and widow, Hulda
Mathilda
ENGLUND.
Any connections to these people is welcomed. Kristine Johnson-Burrill. (Posted July 18, 1999)

SWEET I am researching Elias SWEET (b. 1823 St. Austell, Cornwall). He had two children (William SWEET and Harriet SWEET) from a previous marriage and he married Elizabeth GREENFIELD (b 10/1/1839) on 12/25/1860?1861. Elizabeth was
the daughter of John GREENFIELD, MI State legislature 1859/1861. The
information I have about the GREENFIELD family indicates that they emigrated from Scotland. I believe that the information I have was obtained by one of my relatives from the Ontonagon County Historical Society Museum.
The children of Elias SWEET and Elizabeth GREENFIELD were my
great-grandfather Charles SWEET (b. 23 Aug 1870) and Mary SWEET. Charles SWEET married my great-grandmother May KERREDGE
in Hancock on 10 Nov 1896. I would appreciate learning of any connections anyone has to this
lineage. Stuart C. Sweet.
