Evart Review March 15, 1878 THE VILLAGE ELECTION The election held last Monday passed off quietly, barring a few earnest discussions o questions of law, rights of voters, etc. In obedience to law the liquor traffic was suspended during the day or carried on under cover of secrecy and in consequence excellent order prevailed. Party lines were totally ignored in the make up of the two tickets, the Citizens and Peoples that were in the field, each of them being composed of good men for all of the prominent offices and Republicans, Democrats and Red Ribbons engaged earnestly in the support of their favorite candidates without any particular regard to the ticket on which he was placed. The contest was lively enough to make it interesting, and a very large vote was polled as compared with last year. The total number of votes polled was 166. The result was as follows: FOR PRESIDENT John C. Dexter, Citizens 84 Roderick c. Hepburn, Peoples 79 Majority for Dexter, 5 FOR TRUSTEES Wm. A. Lewis, on both tickets 161 Dan L. Dumon, Citizens 82 Edward J. Cox, Peoples 82 John T. Peter, Citizens 81 John Manning, , Peoples 85 Majority for Manning 4 FOR CLERK Irvin Chase, Citizens 95 George Seeley, Peoples 68 Majority for Chase, 27 FOR TREASURER Walter M. Davis, Citizens 96 Ransom Rapp, Peoples 64 Majority for Davis, 32 FOR ASSESSOR Chas. A. Waffle, Citizens 74 Elias C.
