Ira HOPKINS was born in Ontario County, New York, in May of 1842 or1845, according to conflicting census records and GAR Post Records. Ihave never uncovered any information about Ira's parents, nor do Iknow if he had any brothers or sisters. Ira appeared on page 920 inthe 1860 federal census, Oakland County, MI, West Bloomfield, a farmhand, living with the family of John CARE or CASE, 30, a farmer. Onpg 929 of above census (69/69) is an Abigail HOPKINS, 50 years old, female, widow, value of real estate 600, bp NY. It's likely that sheis Ira's mother, but I have no proof. On June 2, 1862, Ira Hopkinsenlisted in the Civil War, serving as a Private in Company B, 88thOhio Infantry, and was discharged on September 26, 1862. On 23 July1867, Ira married Elizabeth Ann CLIFFORD in Woodland, Barry Co., MI.They lived in Barry Co., MI, Isanti Co., MN, Kent & Osceola Co.,MI. Ira died 25 Jan 1912, Tustin, Osceola Co., MI.
