MAPLE HILL
CEMETERY: (Section 23 of Warner
Township in Antrim County), located on M-32 one and a
half (1 1/2) miles west of Elmira (Village of Elmira
located in both Otsego and Antrim Counties) Many early
residents of Otsego County were buried there. The cemetery (five acres)
was purchased by Warner Township (Antrim County) from C.
Oscar and Martha L. Wing on July 14, 1886 for $200. The
Warner Township Board holds the title to the cemetery but
the Elmira Township Board does contribute to the upkeep
of the cemetery.

According to the records
of the Warner Township Clerk, the first plat was purchased by
Leander D. Gardner. He purchased an 8-grave plot for $2 on June
1, 1888. There are two earlier stones dating from 1884 and 1887
but it is possible that these were transferred from other burial
places.
There were 231 gravesites
on the listing done in 1980 by James J. Carey for the Otsego
County Historical Society.
