Winsor S. "Bob" Dunbar of Elk Rapids, 93, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire April 4, 2001.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1907 in Benton Harbor to Frank W. and Lydia (Wood) Dunbar. Graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1924, he worked on the family farm, later attending Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan earning a bachelor's degree and master's of arts degree.

In 1934 he moved to Mount Pleasant where he taught Industrial Arts at the Mount Pleasant High School until 1949. On Aug. 17, 1935 he married Mildred V. Farmer of Charlevoix. In 1949 he joined the faculty of Central Michigan University (CMU), in the Industrial Arts Department, retiring in 1973. During his career at CMU he acted as a counselor in various areas, assisting in the education of many of the industrial arts teachers throughout Michigan. This was an accomplishment in which he took a special pride.

He was active in both university and community clubs including Scouting, where he was made an honorary member of the Chippewa Band.

His outside interests were outdoors in nature and he especially enjoyed his cottage on East Grand Traverse Bay in Elk Rapids. In April 2000, he moved to his cottage where he resided until his death.

His parents, his wife, Mildred, and sister, Dorothy, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Larry (Mary Ann) of Elk Rapids and their children, Lisa Ignataski of Horton, Tracey Cejda of Kingsley, Scott Dunbar of Mount Pleasant and Mike Dunbar of Elk Rapids; and son Dick (Ona) and their children, Christa Hoheisel and Jeffery Dunbar of Gaylord; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was April 6. Services will be held at the Clark Funeral Chapel Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens, Mount Pleasant.
