HOLD RITES FOR TRAFFIC VICTIM

Funeral services for Alfred John Galloway of near Grayling were held Friday afternoon from the Sorenson Funeral Home. Mr. Galloway who was 72 years of age, was killed Tuesday night when he was hit by a truck on U.S. 27 south of Grayling. Rev. R.C. Puffer officiated at the services and interment was at Vanderbilt. Serving as pallbearers were Algot Johnson, A.J. Nelson, Herbert Ferguson, William Ferguson, George Bieski and William Fairbotham. He was born in Owosso on March 5, 1878. With his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Galloway, he moved to Vanderbilt where his parents homesteaded. He also resided at Blue Lake before coming to Grayling about 33 years ago. On September 30, 1903, he married the former Miss. Mary Beals at Vanderbilt. He was employed at one time at the Kerry and Hanson Flooring Co. Mills here before moving to a farm near the Beaver Creek township line several years ago.

Surviving are his widow, six children, Mrs. Elsie Denno; Alfred Jr. and Clarence all of Grayling; Thomas of Flint, Frank of Beaver Creek Township, Crawford County; and John of Flint; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Bailey, of New York; and three brothers, Thomas of Midland; John of Clare; and William of New York.

Crawford County Sheriff William Golnick and County Coroner Alfred Sorenson who investigated the fatal traffic mishap said the truck was driven by Stanley Dimbroski of Cheboygan.

The officers said that Galloway , who was known to have poor eyesight, was walking near the center of the highway when struck.

Dombroski, who was driving a large truck and trailer, said he saw a man near the center of the road and swerved sharply in an attempt to avoid striking him. However, Galloway was struck with the left side of the trailer and fatally hurt.
