Cora G, Schreur, 89, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Allegan, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Porter Hills Presbyterian
Village, Grand Rapids. Mrs. Schreur was born March 3, 1912 in Johannesburg, the daughter of Simeon and Marietta
(Brennan) Lewis. She was a graduate of Gaylord High School, attended Alma College and was an English teacher prior to
being married.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Mayflower Congregational Church, Grand Rapids and
a former member of the First Congregational Church, Allegan. She volunteered with many church and community
organizations throughout the years.
Corie, as she was affectionately known by her family, was a creative and talented homemaker who enjoyed rug hooking,
needlepoint, cooking and travel. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, David and Sally Schreur of Holland, Jeff and Susie Schreur of Grand Rapids,
and Debbie and Jim Cook of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren, Sara Giesler, Steven Schreur, Amy Wiener, Jennifer Vasiu,
Carrie Mehney, Betsie Cook and Tom Cook; four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Benson Vasiu, Anna Corinne Giesler and
Molly Wiener; one sister and her husband, Gene and Tom Plowman of Owosso; one sister-in-law, Ronnie Lewis of Beulah;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ammon, in 1998; a son, Steven, in 1947; and several brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held today, Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at the First
Congregational Church, Allegan, Pastor Barry Lucas officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Allegan or Porter Hills Benevolent Fund.
Arrangements were by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
