Clothing Caught Fire When Lighting Lamp Friday Evening, Died at Hospital Mrs. Michael Swantek, a resident of Otsego county for fifty-four years, passed away at two o'clock Easter Sunday morning, the results of burns received Friday night when lighting a lamp at her home, her clothing catching fire and burning her so badly that she passed away at the Gaylord hospital 32 hours later. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Tuesday morning, in charge of Msgr. Ponganis, assisted by Fr. Ben Roguska of Bay City, a nephew of the deceased, and Fr. F. Kaminski. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Swantek was born in German Poland 79 years ago, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Michael Swantek. One child was born and shortly after that Mr. and Mrs. Swantek started for America, remaining in Detroit a short time, then coming on to Gaylord 54 years ago, where Mr.Swantek worked on railroad construction at Otsego Lake, before the railroad came to Gaylord. Later he worked at the coal kilns, and about 45 years ago purchased a farm in Chester township, living there for 30 years. About fifteen years ago the family moved to Gaylord. Three years ago Mr. Swantek passed away. Nine children were born to this union, one a son passed away eighteen years ago. The children surviving are Tom and Mrs. W. Ratza of Birch Run; Stanley of Alpena, Tony and Miss Lottie of Detroit, and Walter, Paul and Frank living here. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Max Chubiniski and son of Grand Rapids and Joe Roguska of Lansing.
