Willis Angel Grand Rapids newspaper, July 15, 1855-- Willis Angel, only son of William N. Angel and Ann M. Angel, died on July 1, 1855, age 15 months and 10 days, of inflammation of the bowels. Willis is buried in Elmwood Cemetery Lamont, Michigan. " Information taken from Portrait and Biographical Record of Muskegon and Ottawa Counties William Angel William M. Angel, City Recorder of Grand Haven, was born in Mooers, Clinton County, NY, on December 16, 1825. He traces his ancestry to Thomas Angel, who immigrated from England to America in 1625, being the first representative of the family in this county. Grandfather Asa Angel was born in Rhode Island and the father of our subject opened his eyes to the light of day in Champlain, NY. The mother of our subject is Mary Keys, a native of Vermont. In the fall of 1848, William removed from Ohio to Ottawa County, MI, where he followed farming practices for a few years. While residing there, he was attacked with severe rheumatism, which resulted in a dislocation of the hip. In the fall of 1848, William was elected Registrar of Deeds for Muskegon County and has served in all for six years. At the expiration of his period of public service, he resumed farming operations in Tallmadge Township, and continued thus for six years. However, on account of his lameness, he found it necessary to select a less active vocation than that of agriculture, and attended Bryant and Stratton's Business College where he spent the winter of 1856-57. He accepted a position as bookkeeper in a country store in Eastmanville. He remained there for five years. He later was a merchant in the dry goods business, elected Recorder and Police Justice, founded a law partnership with L. Souls of Ionia, MI, and afterward was elected to the office of City Recorder. William Angel married Ann M. Everts of Grand Rapids, born in Niagara County, NY By her marriage Mrs. Angel became the mother of eight children, seven sons and one daughter. Four sons died in infancy, (two sons are buried in Elmwood Cemetery). Charles H. Angel died January 9, 1893, age 24. The surviving children are Anne, wife of D. W. Andrus, of Detroit, George E., of Detroit, and Harry A. of Chicago.
