Simeon A. Snyder
Simeon Snyder was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted in Co. G, 21st Michigan Infantry, on November 8, 1862, at Grand Haven, for 3 years, age 24. He was taken prisoner in May 1865 and mustered out June 10, 1865. Coopersville Observer, May 25, 1888—Mr. and Mrs. Snyder have moved to Mackinaw City where they will keep a hotel. 1870 U. S. Federal Census, Polkton, Ottawa County, Michigan Born later were: Eldridge born about 1871; Preston born about 1875; John born about 1878. The 1900 U. S. Federal Census, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, lists Calista Snyder as divorced with children Preston and John living at home. 1910 U. S. Federal Census, St. Ignace, Mackinac, Michigan Simeon, age, 71, born New York in 1838, was married to Sarah B. Adams Snyder, age about 41. (Married in St. Ignace)Children: Esther Lillian Snyder, born about 1893; Simeon Dewey Snyder, born about 1898; Avery Francis Snyder, born about 1903. Simeon Snyder died April 14, 1917. Obituary of the father of Simeon Snyder - Solomon Snyder Coopersville Observer, June 5, 1891—Solomon Snyder Solomon Snyder died at his home, Lamont, early Tuesday morning of this week, at the age of 75 years and three months. The funeral took place at the Congregational Church in that village on Wednesday, Rev. Johnson conducting the services. Mr. Solomon Snyder spent his early life in Newark, New York and became a resident of Lamont in 1856. He was the proprietor of the hotel for many years. He enjoyed the respect and friendly regards of all favored with his acquaintances. Strict integrity characterized his business relations with others. Socially, he was in high repute as a neighbor, husband and father. There are four surviving children; Mrs. Norton of Antigo, Wisconsin; Mrs. Flora Stoddard of Eastmanville; S. A. Snyder of St. Ignace; and H. P. Snyder of Lamont. (After the death of Solomon Snyder, his wife, Esther, married Charles Rumbout, CW veteran.) |
