He married (1) C ATHERINE M ILES May 12, 1852. She was born Sep 12, 1837 in possibly 1834 Dover Township, and died Feb 05, 1864. He married (2) E MILY M . M ILES Jul 21, 1864. She was born Mar 14, 1836 in where Bixby Hospital now stands in Adrian, MI, and died Dec 09, 1916 in Adrian Township, MI.Benjamin P. Emery lived at home until the death of his father, when at the age of 20; all the cares of the farm and family fell upon him. He assumed the management of the farm and in time purchased the interest of all the heirs of his father's estate and lived on the old homestead until his death. All the education he had was received in the district school with a few months in Adrian and at the Graham school. Benjamin Emery was converted in the Friends Church at Raisin Valley in February 1881. He joined this church and lived a Christian life until his death. Her paternal grandfather Nahum Miles, was one of the pioneers of Jackson County and died there at the age of sixty-eight years. Her father was a carpenter by trade, but was fond of agricultural pursuits and became possessor of a small farm in Jackson County, where his death also took place when of the same age as his father, his wife had died in middle life when thirty five years of age. Emery was one of the first settlers of Robinson Township arriving around 1879, where he purchased 80 acres of marshes, swamps and undeveloped soil in Section 10 of Olive Township. He immediately began to clear the land and start his own successful farm with fields of crops, cattle, horses and other farm stock. William was very respected in his community and was often called upon for his legal advice. He served on several boards in his community, including school boards & one in Ottawa County with Judge Padgham. In William and Catherine’s earlier years he owned a general dry goods store and manufactured cigars in Agnew, Michigan. Sometime in the early 1900’s William converted to the Seventh-day-Adventist religion. Due to his newly found religion, William began experiencing a boycott because he refused to have his store open on Saturdays. It was a hard decision to make but he decided to sell his General Store rather than to suffer huge losses from his business and lose good friends. In the 1912 Atlas he was listed as a "Stockraiser".
