LEWIS LAWTON

 

First Generation

1. Lewis 1 LAWTON, son of JOSIAH T. LAWTON and BETSY BRADLEY, was born in New York 04 JAN 1832. Lewis died 25 JUN 1916 Ottawa Co, Michigan, at 84 years of age. His body was interred JUN 1916 in Lamont, Ottawa, Michigan, Maplewood Cemetery. He married Hannah FERGUSON Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, 01 AUG 1853. Hannah was born in New York 17 AUG 1828. Hannah died 6 JUN 1905 Ottawa Co, Michigan, at 76 years of age. Her body was interred 8 JUN 1905 in Lamont, Ottawa, Michigan, Maplewood Cemetery. Lewis was a farmer. In 1910 he was living at the Ottawa County poor farm.

Lewis LAWTON and Hannah FERGUSON had the following children:

2 i. Lorana "Lorain" 2 LAWTON was born in Polkton Twp, Ottawa, Michigan AUG 1857. Lorana died 3 JUN 1942 in Coopersville, Ottawa, Michigan, at 84 years of age. Her body was interred 6 JUN 1942 in Lamont, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Maplewood Cemetery. She married three times. She married Andrew J. "Jack" SQUIERS Ottawa Co, Michigan, 7 MAR 1885. Andrew was born in New York 22 SEP 1826. He had also been married to a Nettie prior to his marriage to Lorana and was a farmer. Andrew died 6 APR 1889 at 62 years of age. His body was interred 9 APR 1889 in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan Coopersville Cemetery. She married William EVANS in Lamont, Ottawa, Michigan, 5 JUL 1891. William was born in England 10 MAR 1851, the son of William and Mary A. (Beater) Evans. Lorana and William lived in Tallmadge Twp, Ottawa County, Michigan until he died 26 AUG 1911 in Wright Twp, Ottawa, Michigan, at 60 years of age. His body was interred AUG 1911 in Marne, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Marne/Berlin Cemetery. Lorana then married Frank C.COOK before 1920. Frank was born in New York CA 1861 and died 16 AUG 1933 in Marne, Ottawa, Michigan, at 72 years of age. Frank was a merchant, owning a store, which also was a repair shop. They lived in Wright Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan. Lorana apparently had no children; however, her first husband, Jack, had a son, Earnest Squires, by his first wife. He was born about 1876.

The Coopersville Observer, March 13, 1885: Married, at the residence of the bride's parents, on the 7th inst., by J.V.B. Goodrich, Esq., Andrew J. Squier and Lorain Lawton. We trust that Jack's happy and pleasant ways with the bride's sense of womanly candor and affection will make for them a bright and happy future.

The Coopersville Observer, April 12, 1889, Page 5: The death of Mr. Jack Squiers, which had been daily expected for some time passed, occurred on Saturday morning last. The funeral was held on Tuesday from the M.E. church under the auspices of the Knights of Honor, Rev. Varion preaching. There was a large attendance of relatives, members of the order and mourning friends, several being present from Grand Rapids and neighboring towns. The deceased was 60 years of age and had resided in this county many years. He was well known to the old residents, especially those living on the river. About two years and a half ago he become afflicted with inflammatory rheumatism which brought on consumption. For over two years he was confined to the house almost entirely, and during the last three months of his sickness was bed-ridden and suffered great pain. During his long sickness he manfully bore his affliction with patience and fortitude. He leaves a wife and numerous friends to mourn his demise.

Coopersville Observer, September 1, 1911: William Evens was born in Devonshire, England, May 10 1851 [date very hard to read] where he lived until he was twenty years of age. Then he came to America in the summer of 1871, landing in New York, drifting westward to Grand Rapids, afterward making his home with H. Goodenow eight years during which time he was industriously preparing a home for himself near the county line in Tallmadge township. He was married to Mrs. Lorain Squires July 5, 1894, and they lived eighteen years on the farm retiring from active farm life February 20, 1909. They then purchased a home in the Hawley Addition in Berlin where they have lived until the time of his death, August 26, 1911. Mr. Evans was an active member of the Berlin F.& A. M. Lodge No. 248, for thirty years, and a member of O.E.S. No. 216 for eleven years. He was an honest, upright man, a good neighbor and a faithful friend.

He leaves no other relatives than his wife, his parents being dead and never had any brothers or sisters, but he leaves a large circle of friends who appreciate his honorable life and who mourn his departure.

Grand Rapids Herald, August 18, 1933, Page 10: FRANK C. COOK--COOPERSVILLE, Aug. 16--Frank C. Cook, 73, died at his home in Marne today. He leaves besides the widow, two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held in Marne Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

3. Melinda Ann "Linda" 2 LAWTON (Lewis 1 ) was born in Tallmadge Twp, Ottawa, Michigan 31 AUG 1859. Melinda died SEP 1919 at 60 years of age. Her body was interred 15 SEP 1919 in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Coopersville Cemetery. She married Franklin Emery KING Tallmadge, Ottawa, Michigan, 12 DEC 1878. Franklin was born in Shenango Co, New York MAY 1854 and was a farmer. After Melinda died, he married Alberta "Bertie" HUTCHINSON 28 DEC 1920. Franklin died 20 MAY 1931 in Coopersville, Ottawa, Michigan, at 77 years of age. His body was interred 23 MAY 1931 in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Coopersville Cemetery.

Coopersville Observer 9/19/1919: Mrs. Frank King passed away early Monday morning, following a brief illness, aged sixty years and fifteen days. She is survived by her husband, three sons and two daughters, Forest King, Earl King, Glenn King, Mrs. Minnie Green and Mrs. Belle Rice, one sister, Mrs. Frank Cook, and one brother Clark Lawton, and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. DeGraff, of Grand Rapids. Burial was in the Coopersville cemetery.

Coopersville Observer, June 12, 1931: FRANKLIN EARL KING PASSES TO REWARDEditor's Note---The letter containing this obituary was mislaid when received and discovered this week. By special request it is being published, though it was intended for two weeks ago.
Franklin Earl King, an old resident of Coopersville and vicinity, passed away at his home here Wednesday, May 20th, after a brief illness. Funeral services were held the following Saturday afternoon at the M.E. church, of which the deceased had been a member for sixteen years, the pastor, Rev. Joseph Tuma, conducting the services. He spoke feelingly of Mr. King's faithfulness, steadfastness and trustworthiness, using as texts for same "He had been faithful unto death, and I will give him a crown of life;" "Be ye steadfast and trust in the Lord and do good." Messrs. Howard Irish and Horace Walcott, assisted by Mrs. Irish at the piano, sang "Just When I Need Him Most," and "Saved by Grace." Interment was made in the Coopersville cemetery.

Franklin Earl King was born in Shenango county, New York, in 1954 (1854). The family moved to Syracuse, Ill., from which place they moved to Michigan when he was twelve years of age and settled on a farm near Eastmanville, where he lived for fifty-two years. On December 12, 1878, he was united in marriage to Linda A. Lawton. To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons, Minnie Linda Huls of Grand Haven, Clara Bell Haven of Grand Rapids and Myrtle Lucille, who passed away at the age of twenty-three; Forrest Emory King of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Earl Delery King of Ferrysburg and Glen Clark King of Grand Rapids. He moved to Coopersville in April, 1919, where, during the following September, Mrs. King passed away. On December 28, 1920, he was united in marriage to Alberta Hutchinson, of Marne. Mr. King was an active member of the Methodist church for thirty-eight years. He is survived by his widow, five children, fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, the children and a number of the other relatives being present at the funeral services.

7 iii. Myrtle Lucille KING was born Ottawa Co, Michigan FEB 1885. Myrtle died 1908 at 23 years of age.

8 iv. Forrest Emery KING was born in Eastmanville, Ottawa Co, Michigan 22 AUG 1887. Forrest died 15 MAY 1936 in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co, Wisconsin, at 48 years of age. His body was interred 17 MAY 1936 in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co, Wisconsin, Evergreen Cemetery. He married twice. He married Dollie HOLLBROOK Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, 8 JAN 1907. Dollie was born in Ohio CA 1887. He married Lenora L. LEMKE in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois, 7 JAN 1913. Lenora was born in Lima Center, Wisconsin 13 SEP 1878, the daughter of August and Sophia (Ollein) Lemke, and died in 30 NOV 1966 at 88 years of age in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin. Her body was interred 3 DEC 1966 in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co, Wisconsin, Evergreen Cemetery. Forrest lived in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, where he was a carpenter, apparently making furniture. He had no known children.

Jefferson County Union, 22 May 1936: FORREST EMERY KING
After remaining unconscious for over four days due to injuries sustained when he fell from a porch while engaged in carpenter work, Forrest E. King, 423 Converse street, local carpenter, died Friday afternoon of last week at the Fort Atkinson General hospital here. (d. 15 May 1936)

Mr. King was a resident of this community for the past 23 years. He was born in East Manville, Mich., on August 22, 1887, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank King. In December, 1912, he married Lenora Lemke at Chicago. He has been a resident of Fort Atkinson ever since, working as a carpenter-contractor. Surviving are the widow; two brothers, Earl King, of Harrisburg, Mich., and Glenn King, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Ms. Frank Haven, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Minnie Hulse, Grand Haven, Mich.; his step-mother, Mrs. Frank King, Coopersville, Mich., and one foster sister, Miss Jessie King, Coopersville. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

+ 9 v. Earl Delery KING was born 14 DEC 1889.

+ 10 vi. Glenn Clark KING was born 30 SEP 1898.

There was also Jessie KING b. 1908 and died before 1941 who was a foster sister of the others. I believe she was actually a sister of Franklin. She is buried at Riverbend Cemetery in Walker Twp, Kent Co, Michigan.


4. Clark A.
2 LAWTON (Lewis 1 ) was born in Tallmadge Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan 25 JAN 1866. He died 27 AUG 1943 in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan, at 77 years of age. His body was interred 30 AUG 1943 in Polkton Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Coopersville Cemetery. He married Eva V. HILL in Lamont, Ottawa Co, Michigan, 22 DEC 1891. Eva was born in Polkton Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan 17 DEC 1871, the daughter of Zebediah and Etta (Taylor) Hill. She died 1 MAY 1948 Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, at 76 years of age. Her body was interred 4 MAY 1948 in Polkton Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan, Coopersville Cemetery. In 1900 Clark and Eva were shown living in Charlevoix County, South Arm Twp. They then lived in Grand Rapids for many years, where Clark worked for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company for 30 years, at least part of them as a foreman. In the 1900 census they were living in Charlevoix County in South Arm Twp, but by 1910 were back in Grand Rapids.

Coopersville Observer, December 25, 1891: Mr. Clark Lawton and Miss Eva Hill of Tallmadge, were married in a very quiet manner, at 10:30 o'clock on Tuesday morning of this week, at the residence of the bride's parents. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Cutler of Lamont.

Coopersvile Observer, July 20, 1894, Lamont: There was a hop at Clark Lawton's last week Friday evening.

The Grand Rapids Herald, August 28, 1943, Page 5 - CLARK A. LAWTON COOPERSVILLE - Clark A. Lawton, 77, former resident of Grand Rapids, died Friday morning in his home here. Before moving here six years ago from Grand Rapids he had been an employee of the Michigan Consolidated Gas company for 30 years. Mr. and Mrs. Lawton celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Dec. 22, 1942. Surviving are the widow, Eva; a daughter, Mrs. Blanche E. Gardner, and a grandson, Lee Clark Gardner, all of Coopersville. The body will repose in the Kammeraad funeral chapel here until Sunday evening when it will be taken to the home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel with burial in Coopersville cemetery.

The Grand Rapids Herald, May 3, 1948, Page 13: LAWTON--Mrs. Eva V. Lawton, aged 77, of Coopersville, passed away early Saturday morning at Blodgett Hospital. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Gardner, and one grandson, Lee, both of Coopersville; one brother, Judd Hill of Detroit. Mrs. Lawton reposes at the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Coopersville, where services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Coopersville Cemetery.

5. Minnie Linda 3 KING (Melinda Ann "Linda" 2 LAWTON, Lewis 1 ) was born Ottawa Co, Michigan APR 1880. She died BEF 1956. She married three times. She married Vernon P. GREEN 6 MAY 1898 in Eastmanville, Ottawa Co, Michigan. Vernon was born in Ohio JUL 1876, the son of Francis GREEN. Minnie and Vernon lived in Crockery Twp, Ottawa Co, Michigan. Vernon died in 1911 at 34 years of age, and she married Unknown MARTIN before 1922. She married Everett HULSE BEF 1930. Everett was born in Germany CA 1866. Minnie and Everett lived in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Minnie Linda KING and Vernon P. GREEN had the following child:

13 ii. Francis H. GREEN was born in Michigan CA 1904. He married Marjorie G. CA 1928. Marjorie was born in Michigan CA 1908.

16 v. Lydia E. GREEN was born in Michigan CA 1910.

17 vi. Arthur C. GREEN was born in Michigan CA 1915.

6. Clara Belle 3 KING (Melinda Ann "Linda" 2 LAWTON, Lewis 1 ) was born in Lamont, Ottawa Co, Michigan DEC 1882. Clara died 10 MAR 1941 Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, at 58 years of age. She married twice. She married Chauncey A. RICE in Eastmanville, Ottawa Co, Michigan, 11 JUL 1900. Chauncey was born in Eastmanville, Ottawa, Michigan CA 1875. In the 1920 census, "Belle" is listed in the 1920 census as a widow with her two children, living in Grand Rapids, and earning a living as a cook in a restaurant. Chauncey is shown living in Muskegon, divorced, and working in a paper mill. Clara Belle then married Frank HAVEN in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan, 2 MAY 1922. Frank was born Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan in 1890, son of Isaac and Jennie (Hoekstra) Haven. He had been married to Myrtle before 1912. He and Myrtle had three children—Helen E. born 27 Apr 1912, who married Howard BULLISS; Earl, born about 1914; and Dorothy G., born 21 Feb 1919, who married Anthony KALLUNAS, then married Unknown BOTT. Frank was shown in 1930 working as a chauffeur for an ice company, and Clara as a saleslady for a creamery company. Frank died APR 1956 at 65 years of age. His body was interred 9 APR 1956 in Walker Twp, Kent Co, Michigan, Washington Park Memorial Gardens.

The Grand Rapids Herald, March 11, 1941, Page 13: HAVEN - Mrs. Clara Belle Haven, aged 58, wife of Frank Haven, of 159 National ave., NW., passed away Monday evening at St. Mary's hospital. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Sayles and Mrs. Thelma Black; three step-children, Earl Haven, Mrs. Anthony Kallunas and Mrs. Howard Bulliss; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Earl King of Ferrysburg and Glenn King of Grand Rapids, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Huls of Grand Haven. Funeral announcement later. Her body reposes at the Alt mortuary.

The Grand Rapids Herald, April 7, 1956, Page 13: HAVEN--Frank Haven, aged 66, of 4418 Abrigador Trail, NE, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Bullis. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bullis of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Dorothy Bott of Oshkosh, Wis.; a son, Earl of Chicago; two step-daughters; Mrs. Florence Sayles, Mrs. Thelma Larson; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Reinhard, Mrs. Ann Merritt; three brothers, Raymond, Isaac and Peter Haven, all of Grand Rapids. Mr. Haven reposes at the Van'tHof Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 1:30 Monday afternoon. Interment Washington Park Memorial Gardens.

Clara Belle KING and Chauncey A. RICE had the following children:

+ 19 i. Florence L. 4 RICE was born 23 JUL 1905.

+ 20 ii. Thelma RICE was born 17 JUL 1909.

They also apparently had a son who died young. No more is known about him at this time.

 

9. Earl Delery 3 KING (Melinda Ann "Linda" 2 LAWTON, Lewis 1 ) was born in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan 14 DEC 1889. Earl died 4 JUN 1972 in Grand Haven, Ottawa Co, Michigan, at 82 years of age. He married Johanna "Anna" KAMHOUT in Ferrysburg, Ottawa, Michigan, 29 SEP 1910. Johanna was born 29 SEP 1890 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co, Michigan. She died 24 JAN 1978 at 87 years of age. Earl lived in Ferrysburg, Michigan. It is thought at this time that both he and Johanna are buried in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.

Earl King, 1231 Washington, died suddenly Sunday morning at North Ottawa Community Hospital following a three-day illness. Mr. King was born December 14, 1889 in Coopersville and married the former Johanna Kamhout in September of 1910 in Ottawa County. The couple resided in this area the past 60 years. Mr. King retired from Eagle Ottawa Leather Company in 1958. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes. Survivors include his wife, Johanna; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Miner, Grand Haven and Mrs. Cecil (Helen) Dreese, Spring Lake; two sons, Gerald of Grand Haven and Louis of Spring Lake; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The body will repose at the Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven. The Funeral Service for Mr. Earl King, age 82 will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Grand Haven with Rev. Albert Frevert officiating.

Mrs. Johanna King, 900 S. Beacon Blvd., died Tuesday evening following a long illness. She was 87. The former Johanna Kamhout was born in Muskegon on Sept. 29, 1890. She married Earl King on Sept. 29, 1910 in Grand Rapids, then moved to the Tri-Cities area a few years later, and has lived here ever since. Her husband died in 1972. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, and of the church's Ladies Aide Society. Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Miner and Mrs. Cecil (Helen) Dreese, both of Grand Haven; two sons, Gerald, of Grand Haven and Louis, of Spring Lake; six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Van Zantwick-Bartels-Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.

Earl Delery KING and Johanna KAMHOUT had the following children:

+ 21 i. Gerald 4 E. R. KING was born 21 AUG 1911 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan.

+ 22 ii. Lucille M. KING was born 29 JUL 1914. She and Louis were twins.

23 iii. Louis M. KING was born 29 JUL 1914 in Ferrysburg, Ottawa Co, Michigan. He died in Grand Haven, Ottawa, Michigan 29 NOV 1993. He married Nadie DOMANCHUK 21 JUN 1941 in Grand Haven, Ottawa Co, Michigan. Nadie was born 22 APR 1913 and died 4 AUG 2001. They are both buried in Spring Lake Township Cemetery in Spring Lake, Michigan.

Louis M. King, 79, of Spring Lake died Monday, Nov. 29, 1993 in Grand Haven. Mr. King was born July 29, 1914 in Ferrysburg to Earl and Johanna (Kamhout) King. He married Nadie Domanchuk on June 21, 1941 in Grand Haven and was a lifelong resident of the area. He retired at age 65 from Construction Aggregates, was a life member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes. He also belonged to Sgt. Alvin Jonker VFW Post #2326, Muskegon Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #426, Grand Haven Fraternal Orders of Eagles Lodge and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Mr. King is survived by wife, Nadie; sisters, Lucille Miner and Helen Dreese both of Grand Haven; several nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by brother Gerald King. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Van zantwick Bartels Kammeraad, of Spring Lake.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Louis King, age 79, will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday from Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Eldon K. Eldred and Rev. Richard Youells officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends may meet the family 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given to Methodist Church of the Dunes.

10. Glenn Clark 3 KING (Melinda Ann "Linda" 2 LAWTON, Lewis 1 ) was born in Coopersville, Ottawa Co, Michigan 30 SEP 1898. Glenn died 9 APR 1956 Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, at 57 years of age. His body was interred 12 APR 1956 in Paris Twp, Kent Co, Michigan, Restlawn Cemetery.

He married twice. He married Bessie M. MC CLATCHIE Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, 21 SEP 1917. Bessie was born in Muskegon, Muskegon Co, Michigan CA 1898, daughter of George and Altha [or Achsa] I. (Bartlett) McClatchie. Glenn married Phyllis A. FRENCH BEF 1928. Phyllis was born in Massachusetts CA 1903. In 1920 Glenn was shown as a joiner in a furniture factory, and in 1930 as a radio mechanic, both in Grand Rapids.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Lincoln, Mrs. Howard (Sally) French, both of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. James (Beatrice) Black of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two grandchildren; one brother, Earl King of Ferrysburg, Mich. Howard was a plasterer at the time of their marriage, and they lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

27 iii. Beatrice KING. She married James BLACK. James was born 24 AUG 1925. James died 21 JUN 1989 at 63 years of age. Last known they were living in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

 

11. Blanch Etta 3 LAWTON (Clark A. 2 , Lewis 1 ) was born in Michigan FEB 1899. She married twice. She married Guy E. WHEELER Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, 8 JUN 1922. Guy was born in Kent Co, Michigan CA 1885, son of Edward A. and Christiana (Creveling) Wheeler. They divorced before 1930, and he married Bertha before 1943. Guy is listed in 1930 as a street car operator in Grand Rapids. He died 4 JUL 1943 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, at 58 years of age. Blanch married Fred W. GARDNER after 1930. Fred was born in Wisconsin CA 1898. They lived in Coopersville, but then Fred left his wife and son about 1938. Blanche died in 1971 and is buried in the Coopersville Cemetery in Polkton Twp, Ottawa, Michigan.

On 15 SEP 1942 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan she married Raymond E. LARSEN, who was born 5 DEC 1906. Raymond died in Grand Rapids 28 MAR 1971. She died 15 JUL 1993. Her last address was in Rochester, Olmsted Co, Minnesota, so she must have been living with her daughter, Betty. Both Thelma and Raymond are buried in Coral Cemetery in Trufant, Montcalm Co, Michigan.

Nina was born 8 SEP 1911 and died AUG 1986. Gerald died 23 JAN 1985 in Grand Haven, Ottawa Co, Michigan. It is believed they are both buried in the Spring Lake Township Cemetery in Spring Lake, Michigan.

Gerald R. King, 73, 14476 Angelus, died suddenly at home Wednesday. Born Aug. 21, 1911 in Grand Rapids a son of Earl and Johanna King, Mr. King was married to Nina Torongeau on Sept. 24, 1930 in Grand Haven. A resident of Grand Haven most of his life, Mr. King was plant engineer at the Eagle Ottawa Leather Company for 40 years, retiring in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, received a Purple Heart, was a member of the VFW and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ellis (Marilyn) Pierson of Grand Haven; one son, Ronald King of Flushing, Mich., two grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Miner and Mrs. Cecil (Helen) Dreese, both of Grand Haven, and one brother, Louis King, of Spring Lake. Funeral arrangements are through the VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven.

Lucille M. Miner, 81, of Grand Haven died April 11, 1996 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. Born July 29, 1914 in Grand Haven to Earl and Johanna (Kamhout) King, she was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and retired from Grand Transformers. She is a 30-year member of Sgt. Alvin Yonker VFW Post 2326 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Tom) Kerridge of Grand Haven; son, William (Mary Ellen) Geno of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Dreese of Grand Haven; daughter-in-law, Janice Geno of Grand Haven and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Miner was preceded in death by son, Richard Geno in 1973 and two brothers, Louis and Gerald King. Arrangements are by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven. Helen E. Dreese, 81, of Grand Haven died Friday, July 2, 1999, at a local care facility. She was born June 12, 1918 in Ferrysburg to Earl and Johanna (Kamout) King and married Cecil L. Dreese on June 19, 1937 in Grand Haven. They had been married nearly 56 years at the time of his death, April 20, 1993. Mrs. Dreese was a lifelong area resident and attended Second Christian Reformed Church. She worked for Camfield's, Grand Haven Brass, and 20 years at Kent Products. Her interests included spending time with her family, traveling, wintering in Florida, bicycling, playing cards and socializing with friends. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Charley) Jackson of Grand Haven; a son, Jerry (Sang Cha) Dreese of Grand Haven; three grandchildren: Todd Jackson, Lee Alan Dreese and Jodi Ann Dreese-Nass; and three great-grandchildren: Kyle Fisher, Madeline Nass and Ethan Nass. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Cheri Lee Jackson in 1994; her sister, Lucille Miner, and her brothers, Gerald and Louis King. Arrangements are being handled by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven. The funeral service for Mrs. Helen E. Dreese will be held 11:00 A.M. Thirdly, she married Maurice Dean LINCOLN in Paris Twp, Kent, Michigan 18 February 1959. Maurice had been married once previously. He was born 11 OCT 1927, the son of Rollin Arthur and Mary Ellen (Burke) LINCOLN. Maurice died 7 AUG 1962 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan.

Barbara died 13 FEB 1972 Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan, at 37 years of age. Her body was interred 16 FEB 1972 in Plainfield Twp, Kent Co, Michigan, Blythefield Memory Gardens. She married Robert A. TANNER, who was born CA 1929. He married Janet after 1972. Robert died 20 MAY 1998 in Newaygo, Newaygo Co, Michigan, at 68 years of age. His body was interred MAY 1998 in Plainfield Twp, Kent Co, Michigan, Blythefield Memorial Park. They lived in Cascade, Michigan, and later in Newaygo.

Barbara Jean SAYLES and Robert A. TANNER had the following children:
