There is a story about Losina having a sow with a batch of little pigs. Each night a bear would sneak in and kill a little one. Losina got tired of the waste and loss of potential food. She hid near the pig pen and waited for the bear. When the bear arrived she jumped up and stabbed it with a kitchen knife and killed? it. They were living in the Newago area when this happened. In 1880 they had a farm in Section 8 of Olive Township. By 1918 they had moved from the farm and owned a house and lot in West Olive Village. In 1910 they were living in District 2 of Burdell Township in Osceola Township. Losina applied for a widow’s Civil War pension in November of 1923 after Charles’ death. 1910 Census - mother of 14 children (9 boys - 5 girls), 11 living. 1923-24 - living at 45 E 7th St in Holland with Watsons.
