Guidelines Set Up For New Hospital, Grand Haven

Policy guide lines for the Municipal Hospital building program were established this week when the hospital building committee met with Adolph Roessling of the architectural firm of Smith, Hinchman and Grylls of Detroit. Progress on plans for the new area hospital also were reviewed.

The plans at this time are in the development or the schematic stage. In this planning phase the architects develop a variety of concepts in order to arrive at a design that will be most suitable. As plans progress many changes may occur before the final design and the various departments are placed in their ultimate location.

This planning process and drawing of preliminary and final working drawings and specifications is expected to take about a year. This schedule will give the proposed Joint Hospital Authority Board of Trustees ample opportunity to exercise its influence and judgments in the planning and development of the new hospital building.

The following policy was adopted:

That the new building will be located south of the present hospital and the buildings will be joined by a new entrance and lobby.

That the present hospital will be utilized to its fullest potential. Plans call for remodeling the maternity department and providing a new extended care department in the present building.

That the new building provide for ancillary services such as laboratory, X-ray and emergency.

That intensive care and acute care facilities be in the new building.

A meeting of the medical staff is planned for July 25 when the program will be reviewed by the physicians.
