Holland City News, July 10, 1914 William B. Avery William B. Avery died Friday at the hospital of the Soldiers’ Home in Grand Rapids after four week’s illness. Mr. Avery had reached the age of 77 years. He was a veteran of the Civil War and served in the First Michigan Infantry, Co. 1. He has been a citizen of Holland since 1881. The funeral took place, Monday forenoon at 10:30 from the home at the corner of Pine Avenue and Seventeenth Street. The Rev. J. K. McCreery, pastor of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiated. The deceased is survived by the following children: Merrill Orlanda, William Lellan, Josiah Benjamin, Elmer E., Mrs. A. M. Ambrose, Mrs. Eunice Lewis Bell and Mrs. Eva Lena Hubbard.
