William E. Bennett enlisted as 1^st cabin boy in the United States Navy during the Civil War. He was born in New York in 1850 and died of consumption on May 6, 1894, age 44 years, 4 months and 6 days. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Lamont, Michigan.
