Dropped Dead in his Field

Joel A. Bond Passed Away Suddenly While Engaged in Plowing

Joel A. Bond

Joel A. Bond, one of the pioneer residents of this vicinity, dropped dead in the field on his farm a few miles east of here last week Friday morning.

Mr. Bond, who was sixty- seven years of age, had been in rather poor health all winter, but last week Friday morning felt well enough to resume his farm work. With Frank Skeels he started to plow up a field. Skeels was guiding the plow and Mr. Bond was driving the horses, and one furrow had been completed, when Mr. Bond fell.

Death was almost instant, and although all that was possible was done for him, it was of not avail. Heart trouble was the cause of death. Mr. Bond was a veteran of the Civil War and is survived by his wife and one brother. For a number of years they had lived on their forty acre farm in Wright Township, but previous to that Mr. Bond was a resident of Crockery Township.

For many years he served as supervisor from Crockery Township, and had held a number of other important township offices during his younger days. Mr. Bond was a man of marked ability, an Odd Fellow, Granger and member of the G. A. R., and he was long prominent in public affairs in Ottawa County

Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon in the Odd Fellows Hall, Rev. J. T. Husted officiating, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows.
