Obituary of John Brouwer

Died in Fillmore, Saturday, John Brouwer, age 50 years. John was a worthy veteran of the late war, having served faithfully in Company 1, 25th Michigan Infantry. He leaves a widow and seven children, of which five are still at home. At his request he was buried by his comrades and laid to rest in the soldiers’ plat at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. The funeral took place on Tuesday from the neighboring schoolhouse, and was attended by about twenty old soldiers from this city and vicinity in charge of Capt. M. De Boe. Appropriate remarks were made in the school by his pastor, Rev. A. Keizer, and D. B. K. Van Raalte, chaplain of the G. A. R. Post of Holland. The Van Lente choir furnished the music for the occasion. At the grave comrades J. Wilterdink and J. Kramer also added their tribute to the memory of the deceased.
