Coopersville Observer, January 16, 1920 Michael J. Canty Michael J. Canty was born May 1, 1843, in Canada. At the age of eighteen he enlisted and served throughout the Civil War. After the war he came to Michigan and married Elizabeth Hinsley, July 4, 1866. Five children were born to this union. He is survived by Mrs. Ada Kraft, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Lowella Kelly of Lyons; Mrs. Vina Barkman of Lake City; Mrs. Chas. L. Canty of Jackson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He died January 6, 1920. Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Friday morning at the residence of General Tom Hensley, where he spent the last part of his days. Burial was in Coopersville Cemetery.
