Cornelius P. Danhof

Cornelius P. Danhof was born at Soper-Mair, Netherlands, on December 4, 1863, and departed this life April 27, 1910, at one p.m. aged 46 years, 4 months, 23 days. At the age of nine years he, with his parents, six brothers and two sisters, came to this country and made his home at Grand Haven, Michigan.

Mr. Danhof was married in 1884 to Miss Jane VandenBosch, also of Grand Haven. To them were born ten children, two of whom, Jennie May and Frances Mary, have preceded him into the other world. Those living are Mrs. Ruia Ronch, Magnolla, Ill.; Cornelia Thomas, Benjamin, Cora, Charles, Lila and Baby Flora. These, with his wife, are left to feel, keenest the, loss of a kind and thoughtful husband and father.

The following brothers and sisters are living: Mr. John Danhof of Lacon, Ill.; Richard of Kenosha, Wis..; Henry of Edmore, Mich.; Rudolph of Schenectady, N.Y.; Benjamin of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mrs. Jan Vanderberg, of Los Angeles, Cal.; and Mrs. Flora Lynch of Grand Rapids, Mich.

The family after removing from Grand Haven, Mich., and residing for a few months in Chicago, and four years in Lacon, moved to Washburn, Ill., about sixteen years ago, where Mr. Danhof engaged in business.

Mr. Danhof’s parents belonged to the Dutch Reformed church in which church he was raised. After coming to Washburn he identified himself with the United Presbyterian church under the pastorate of the Rev. C.W. Laurence.

Mr. Danhof was a friendly, companionable man, a good workman at his trade, ready to extend a helping hand where he could, and will be greatly, missed from the residents of our village. His departure will be most keenly felt by his own family and all who knew him will realize the sense of loss which his death in the prime of manhood.
