citizens Mr. Lievense was a well known resident of Holland (MI) for many years, coming here 46 years ago from Port Sheldon. (MI) Mr. Lievense was born in the Netherlands on December 7, 1846. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lievense moved to the United States when Simon Lievense was a boy of six. The family consisted of three boys and three girls, only two of whom survive. The family first settled in New York State, later moving to Port Sheldon where Simon Lievense grew to manhood, becoming a sailor on lumber barges between Port Sheldon and Chicago when the lumber industry was at it’s height. Coming to Holland Mr. Lievense engaged in the business of moving houses and heavy machinery. He married Miss Mary De Krakerin 1879 and in this union was born four sons, all of whom are living in Holland. They are Jacob N., Peter A., Ben H., and Frank M. Lievense. |
