Joseph E. Dearborn – 28 Mar 1932
Stricken the night of the presidential election, Mr. Dearborn, 88, former justice of the peace in Grandville, died Monday night at his home there. Mr. Dearborn was born at Oshawa, Ont., Canada, 4 Feb 1847. He was a member of the 10th Michigan Infantry in the Civil War and was discharged 6 May 1865 at Jackson. Following the was he operated a farm near Hudsonville, retiring from that 28 years ago. He operated a hotel in Hudsonville one year after that, then moved to Grandville, where he was active in civic affairs. Familiarly known in Grandville as Judge Dearborn, he was justice of the peace for two terms, serving from 1914 to 1922. Surviving are his widow, Emily, two stepdaughters, Mrs. Charles H. McBride of Holland and Mrs. M. B. Hopkins of Dearborn and a sister, Mrs. Patience Crawford of Hudsonville. There are four step-granddaughters, Mrs. Chester G. Boltwood of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Thomas Horgan of Boston, Mrs. Donald Daugherty and Miss Virginia McBride of Holland. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Wednesday at the home. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. |
